Rain clouds are often large and grey, they appear dark because they are so large and full of water that sunlight cannot get through them. The heaviest rain falls from the deepest, darkest clouds which are high enough for the raindrops to develop. The rain in these clouds fell last week on Manchester which was good because I was 12 or so miles away on the moors above Glossop in Derbyshire.

Good.
Story and taken.
Stormy skies, but even so great ones!
Into every life some rain must fall! We are so thankful when we get rain here after the dry summer of 2007.
Very nice Sky Watch post!
The sky is the daily bread of the eyes.... mine's up too hope you can drop by.
G'day from Oz,

Good shots Pete, 1 looks like a rainy sky.
Love those skies!
Now wasn't it nice you were 12 miles away?
Actually, I'm one of those very weird people who likes rain. But we're about to have three solid days of it starting tomorrow, so maybe we should see what I think on Monday. LOL

Clouds can tell you what kind of weather is coming.
-Cheers.
Lovely, Pete. I love stormy skies.
OK, this post is a DUH to me! I never even thought to wonder about why rain clouds are dark! So this is a great post for me, with beautiful photos. Thank you!
Greetings from south Texas. Nice job for someone without a PC. Proves you can do anything if you just think about it.
Looks like you had a fabulous hike. What beautiful landscape...

Beautiful pictures og clouds, even if they brought rain with them. I love the english nature in your photoes:)
yes, good it was 12 miles away, it is one thing to enjoy a quick shower when you are close to home, but not so cool having to slog on for miles, soaking wet! Wonderful views though, i love how colours intensify when it is cloudy above.
Great post. Words and photos<3

Looks like a storm is brewing. We had quite a bit last night, our daughter's dog (we're dog sitting) hates lightning, so I was up half the night with the animal. Finally I turned on a light, and he couldn't tell it was still lightning, since he's going deaf he didn't hear the thunder, finally got back to sleep around 4am. Have a great week-end.
